What is a story?
This two-day workshop will focus on the fundamentals of storytelling. A hands-on
practical workshop with an emphasis on writing exercises where you will explore
the question of what makes a satisfying story and how to organise your narrative
from the beginning to the middle, and then to the end. You will also look at
creating characters and finding their individual voices.
Come along prepared to write and to share your work. Carl will cater the work to
suit whatever level you’re up to – the beginner or the more advanced.
“Brave, bold and unflinching, Carl Nixon’s Settlers’ Creek is one of the best novels
to come out of New Zealand. It’s not only a gripping, brutal thriller but also a
dissection of a country and its culture. It’s the kind of book that gets you run out
of town.”
Witi Ihimaera

“Carl Nixon, actually, is one of my favourite New Zealand writers. I love his stuff.
I’m very excited to have a new book.”
Kathryn Ryan; Radio NZ

“He is a major talent and Rocking Horse Road is a very good book. You should
read it.”
Warwick Roger; North and South Magazine.
